Dear colleagues,

You are cordially invited to the International Symposium and Workshop on Biomass Assessment Methods, to be held in Brussels, Belgium on the 15th of April 2010. The event is organised by the CEUBIOM Consortium (www.ceubiom.org) in cooperation with the BEE Consortium (www.eu-bee.com), two projects launched by the European Commission to define ways for a harmonised approach on biomass resource assessment in Europe.

The objective of the International Symposium is to introduce current methods and best practices on the assessment of biomass potential in Europe. Representatives from key European stakeholders, the academia, research and the industry will sit together to compare recent practices against the backdrop of changing European legislation and requirements by the industry and decision makers. This will include expert presentations and discussions from the CEUBIOM and BEE projects on the challenges of biomass assessment methods. Conclusions from the discussions during the Symposium will be presented to the European Commission the following day.

You are also welcome to take part in the EC Workshop that will be held the following day to the theme: Common View on the Biomass Feedstock Availability for the European Industrial Initiative on Bioenergy (16th of April). This dedicated workshop will be organised for the stakeholders of the European Industrial Initiative on Bioenergy, the bio-based industries, agricultural and forestry sectors and the policy makers. The aim is to clarify the different results of biomass feedstock potential assessments, as well as to reach a common understanding and view on the available indigenous EU grown biomass for non-food and non-feed use.

We hope you will be joining us for the two events to present your views and participate in the discussions and look forward to welcoming you to Brussels.

Sincerely,

Balázs Bodó
